Sara’s foundation in classical dressage training was established during extensive training with German Master Trainer Eicke von Veltheim. Her education was furthered during two lengthy stays in Germany with German team trainer Hans-Heinrich Meyer-zu-Strohen in the Hannover region and with four-time Olympic gold medalist Nicole Uphoff. As an up and coming rider in the early 2000’s, Sara was chosen to train her own six-year-old mare with Klaus Balkenhol in Wellington, Florida, sponsored by the US Equestrian Team. More recently as a nationally ranked High Performance rider, Sara has participated in exclusive US Equestrian Team training sessions and activities. While Sara is a highly respected FEI rider and trainer, she remains committed to her continuing education by working with Danish Olympian Lars Petersen. Lars has been Sara’s mentor and trainer for almost 25 years and coaches Sara regularly in clinics in Lovettsville, Virginia.

As a top performing dressage rider, Sara Spofford continues to bring along competitive horses to the upper levels.
